Sintra Photo Diary: a day of colourful castles in Portugal

Exploring castles is one of my favorite things to do when traveling. So when I visited Lisbon a few years ago, a day trip to the region of Sintra was a must.

Some of the castles you’ll find in this area include the colorful Pena Palace (which also has extensive grounds), the medieval Castle of the Moors, the Sintra National Palace and the beautiful Quinta da Regaeira– with gardens full of hidden grottoes and tunnels.

If you have time it’s definitely worth visiting the stunning coast at Sagres– the most western point of Europe. There’s a song of the same name by The Tallest Man on Earth– about traveling, dealing with heartbreak and learning to live for yourself- it’s cliche and perfect to listen to as you stare out on the ruggared coastline… “It’s just all this fucking doubt”.
