Helsinki in Winter: Photo Diary

Growing up in Australia’s southern-most island state, I’ve always been more of a summer person than a winter lover. During January and February the ocean water at Tassie’s endless beaches loses it’s icy edge and swimming, water-skiing and kayaking filled my summer days.

After moving to Helsinki two years ago I’ve developed a strong appreciation for the unique beauty of all four seasons- especially winter. As the new year rolls in and the days begin to lighten, the snow and ice arrives and Helsinki is transformed into a true winter wonderland. This year has been particularly full of snowy blizzards, with people cross county skiing to work and cleared snow piling high in the streets.

Here are some images from recent weeks.
