Hailing from a county where the landscape is predominantly comprised of ever-green Eucalypts, I never really appreciated autumn until I moved to the northern hemisphere. At home in Tasmania, the changing seasons from summer through winter meant a drop in temperature of around 20°C and in some places, autumn leaves and snow in winter. But nothing has compared to the four truly distinct seasons I’ve witnessed whilst living in Helsinki (and the 50°C change in temperature!).
Over the last few weeks the trees and vines around Helsinki have displayed a brilliant spectrum of colors, from greens to yellows, orange and the deepest red. The days are still warm enough and (occasionally) sunny enough for long walks in the city’s numerous parks and forests to soak up these changes, and here are some captured moments from my new favourite season.
