Philosophy

These are the values that drive me and the qualities I have chosen to focus on in 2019

Integrity

Specifically: observing without judgement and refraining from speaking poorly of others

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of being.”  ~Goethe

“Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn’t matter.”  ~Marcus Aurelius

“If you know the truth and decline to speak the truth, you are not living truthfully”   ~Nassim Taleb

Gratitude

Every day I write one thing in my daily planner that I’m grateful for. These range from lunches with my gorgeous colleagues to snowy solo walks through the woods on my way to work, video-calling family back home in Australia, and the feeling of flying above the world in a plane.

“Expect nothing, appreciate everything”

Antifragility

This concept is about becoming something that benefits from disorder. Alternatively- ensuring that random events have more upsides that downsides. I see this as an extension of Amor Fati (a love of fate), resilience, grit and as the author discusses- a solution to the Black Swan Theory. I love the idea.

“The obstacle is the way”   ~ Marcus Aurelius

“Ne te quaesiveris extra”  ~ Emerson

Ikigai

This Japanese word describes the point where passion, mission, vocation and profession meet. In other words, a reason for being. This year I’m working towards mine everyday.

“What if the rest of your life was the best of your life?”
